KUALA LUMPUR: The Sang Saka Bangsa flag was raised at Plaza Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre at 8am this morning to officially signal the start of the 2023 Umno General Assembly.

The flag was raised by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to the tune of the party's official song, 'Bersatu, Bersetia, Berkhidmat' by the delegates present.

Zahid was accompanied by deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and executive secretary Datuk Sumali Reduan on stage.

Also present was Umno vice- presidents Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The ceremony had begun with Zahid witnessing Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, followed by Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and Puteri chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi, hoisting the Sang Saka Bangsa flag, accompanied by the official songs of the party wings.

Today is the official start of the Umno General Assemby, after the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings meetings concluded yesterday.

It has been reported that total of 6,341 Umno delegates are attending this year's general assembly.
