SHAH ALAM - The government has successfully seized property worth over RM83 million in connection with the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund embezzlement case.

According to Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, the seized assets include cash, money in bank accounts, and interests, as well as 40 handbags from various brands.

The seized properties were confiscated by the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), with over RM83 million already deposited in government-owned accounts.

"The government, through the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), has filed a property forfeiture application under Section 56 of the Anti-Terrorist Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. This is a result of the misappropriation of 1MDB funds," said Azalina.

She further explained that the police and MACC had successfully forfeited cash and money in bank accounts totaling approximately RM66.96 million and RM16.06 million, respectively.
