KUALA LUMPUR - Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan today advises that the issue of DAP being urged to apologise to Umno no longer needs to be raised.

He said that he did not want the demand made by Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh to be a cause of division or rift in the Unity Government.

"I am not saying that DAP should apologise, but it's not wrong (to apologise). It is a good thing," he said.

He said this to reporters at Laman Media in conjunction with the 2023 Umno General Assembly at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) on Saturday.

Previously, Akmal demanded an apology from DAP and urged the party to retract all accusations made towards Umno.

Akmal had said that the act could potentially soften the hearts of Umno members who still doubted DAP's sincerity to be a partner.

However, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said DAP's apology towards Umno should not be raised again.

Mohamad said it would not be a problem if DAP apologised to Umno in order to eliminate suspicion and doubt between the parties.

"If DAP can make an apology to the people, the (previous) Sarawak Government, then it can improve the bond because we are partners in this Unity Government.

"This simultaneously eliminates suspicions and doubts about each other," he said.
