11-year-old boy arrested for underage driving
KLANG - An 11-year-old boy was arrested for underage driving after he drove his father's Proton Saga last Friday (June 6).
The boy was arrested along with his 49-year-old father at about 1.15am at their house in Pandamaran, here, on Sunday.
This came after a 1.21-minute video of him driving on a main road went viral on social media.
Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said the Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Division had taken the father-son duo to the police headquarters to have their statements recorded.
"The case is currently being investigated under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for underage driving and Section 111 of the same Act for aiding and allowing the offence.
"The investigation is also conducted according to Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglecting or exposing a child in a manner likely to cause the child physical or emotional injury," he said in a statement today.
The public was advised not to be negligent and to always monitor their children so they don't carry out actions that would harm themselves or damage other people's property.
Furthermore, he said spreading any content, whether in the form of videos or photos, was not encouraged in order to protect the image and privacy of others.
Instead, the public is advised to directly visit the nearest police station to lodge a report.
Cha added that the incident occurred on Friday at about 6pm at Jalan Kampung Pendamat, Klang.
