KOTA BHARU - Muafakat Nasional (MN) Chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa is ready to be the last choice if Pas wants to allow him to contest in the upcoming state elections.

He said he joined Pas not to become a candidate but because he was sincere in fighting for the interest of religion and the Malay nation.

“It doesn’t matter if I don’t contest as long as Umno doesn’t win.

“If given a mandate to contest, I need to discuss with the party leadership to determine for what purpose I was entrusted to do so.

“If not, it’s okay to give opportunities to young people or candidates among Pas members who have been with this party for a long time. After all, I’m still new,” he said while speaking at the Ceramah Mega Gelombang at Dataran Warisan Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV here, on Sunday.

Prior to that, Pas Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said all Pas members could be candidates to be the elected representatives including Annuar, in the next state polls.

However, Takiyuddin said that his party had yet to decide on the matter.

Meanwhile, Annuar said that he had previously tried not to join any party but failed to do so.

He said that even though he was once a ‘big figure’ in Umno, he accepted the fact that he was now a ‘small man’ because Pas’ struggle was more steadfast.

Annuar also thanked Pas for accepting him as an ordinary member and allowing him to serve the party at the age of 67.

On Saturday, the former Secretary-General of Barisan Nasional (BN) officially became a member of Pas.

He was among the 3,000 new Pas members who joined the party.
