KUANTAN - A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car while attempting to cross the road along Jalan Kuantan-Gambang, Batu 12, here on Tuesday.

In the 8.49pm incident, the victim, S Paradaman, 57, who worked as a labourer was pronounced dead at the scene due to head injuries.

Kuantan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the 31-year-old female driver did not suffer any injuries.

He said preliminary investigations found that the female driver of the Perodua Axia car was traveling from Balok Perdana to Batu 11 here.

"When she arrived at the scene, a man (the victim) suddenly crossed the road from the left to the right side.

"The car driver did not have time to avoid him and collided with the victim," he said.

Wan Mohd Zahari said the investigation found that the accident occurred on a straight road in a dark condition without street lights.

"The deceased was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here for post-mortem examination.
