Freeing Najib can strengthen govt and counter Opposition - Zaid Ibrahim
MOHAMAD AMREEL IMAN ABD MALEK
SHAH ALAM - Former law minister, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has called on the government to release former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is currently incarcerated.
Zaid emphasised the significance of Najib's release, considering his influential role within Umno.
He argued that freeing the former Umno president could bolster the government's leadership, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and enhance their chances of success in countering Opposition movements.
"In the upcoming elections, Anwar, you must reconsider your stance on Najib and set him free.
"The Madani government must secure victory, and your presence is still required for several more years," Zaid wrote on his Twitter today.
Zaid further suggested that despite Najib's corruption conviction, it is crucial to move past that chapter and consider it a closed matter.
He also noted that if Anwar pardons Najib, it would reflect positively on Anwar's own integrity.
Najib has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, following his guilty verdict in the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International.
