SARIKEI - A courageous teacher sustained injuries while protecting nine students from an aggressive individual at a kindergarten in Sarikei yesterday.

Sarikei district police chief, Superintendent Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said the incident took place around 8:20am when a 17-year-old suspect, believed to be under the influence of drugs, attempted to enter the kindergarten premises.

"The suspect broke a window and the back door of the kindergarten before the teacher intervened," he said.

The teacher sustained injuries to her arm, leg, and back during the altercation.

It was reported that the teacher alerted a security guard who successfully apprehended the suspect and handed him to the police for further action.

Awang Arfian added that the case is being investigated under Section 427 and 323 of the Penal Code for property damage and for causing hurt. - AWANI
