2023 Melaka Agrofest targets to attract 25,000 visitors

MELAKA - The state government is aiming to draw 25,000 visitors with a sales value of RM1 million in conjunction with 2023 Melaka Agrofest which will be held at Dataran Sejarah Ayer Keroh from June 23 to 25.

State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee chairman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the three-day programme themed "Food Security Our Joint Responsibility” will open from 10 am to 10 pm.

"Melaka Agrofest is the rebranded event of Melaka Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day (HPPN) held each year involving stakeholders in agriculture sector to promote agricultural produce and products by state entrepreneurs.

"Prizes worth RM47,000 are provided for seven contests in conjunction with the event to celebrate farmers, breeders and fishermen in appreciation of their roles for the country’s food security,” he said.

He was speaking in a media conference which was also attended by state Agriculture director Rosli Azizi Khalid and 10th Brigade deputy commander (Para) Col Khairul Anwar Soib.

Dr Muhamad Akmal said among the interesting content of the agricultural festival included the Malaysian Army's 'Battle of the Bands' competition final, an exhibition of four Sado cows, sale of popular Melaka food, an Entrepreneurs' Townhall: Agriculture and Opportunities, as well as an exhibition by 24 agencies. and government departments.

He said the sale and promotion of Agro MADANI involved agro-based industrial products and fresh products from Melaka with 20 to 30 per cent discount apart from the MADANI Combo offer of RM20 for three or more items such as chicken, eggplant, vegetables and cucumber.

"Apart from that, there is also an exhibition of new agricultural technology and also the activities and services of government agencies in an effort to help modernise agricultural entrepreneurs.

"Visitors also have the opportunity to participate in various interesting activities including durian eating contests, colouring contests, flower arrangement contests, traditional tarik upih contests, coconut bowling, shell picking, congkak and aji checkers," he said - BERNAMA
