SHAH ALAM - The current nurses uniforms are practical and serves its purpose.

According to Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president Dr Muruga Rajathurai it is sad that amid nationwide concern over the future and sustainability of our healthcare system, an MP is more concerned about the dress code of nurses.

“All nurses in the public sector adhere to the civil servant dress code.We believe the current nurse uniforms are practical as it allows for easy movement when nurses carry out their duties.

“In healthcare, everyone needs to be fast on their feet and at times ready to sprint to save lives,” he said.

Dr Muruga was responding to a statement made by Kuantan MP Wan Razali Wan Nor in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, where he said the dress code of female nurses in most public health care facilities are non-syariah compliant.

He also said that the dress code needs to be reviewed so that the group can be provided with a more suitable uniform.

“I want to raise the issue of the dress code for female nurses, as most of them dress tightly and show their body, this does not follow the Syariah

“Do we still want to follow the Western countries’ dress code? Can’t it be changed to be more loose,” he said during the Health White Paper debate in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
