KUALA LUMPUR - Member of Parliament for Arau, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim has claimed that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is now more popular among the Malay community than Umno.

He said this was made obvious when he attended the 2023 Umno General Assembly (PAU).

He went on to explain that many party members were dissatisfied with the top leadership, which were viewed as anti-Malay supremacy.

He explained that the PN coalition is seen to be more reassuring on the matter.

"Umno now has 26 seats, the party is indeed large, but in terms of government participation, it is small, we (PN) have 74 seats, so they cannot rule by taking people for a ride this cannot last."

"Sometimes people give a ride, but this is not for everyone," Shahidan explained.

Meanwhile, Shahidan stated his willingness to run for the state elections as a PN candidate in the near future.

He freely admitted, however, that even if he was not chosen to contest, he would still assist the machinery in ensuring victory is in the hands of the coalition.

"It's up to the leadership, I don't have a problem, I want to help, anywhere," he said.
