Race and religion take center stage in Selangor state polls
SHAH ALAM - Racial and religious issues will continue to be played to discredit Pas and Perikatan Nasional (PN) ahead of the state election.
Pas Selangor Youth chief, Mohamed Sukri Omar stated that the issue was used to instill terror in non-Malays towards the PN.
"Despite this negative narrative, non-Malays can see who is truly betraying the people by collaborating with kleptocrats.
"Not to mention that the partnership between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) failed to govern and develop the national economy," he told Sinar Harian.
However, he acknowledged that these allegations have an impact on Pas and PN, leading non-Malays to refrain from voting for Pas and PN.
Nonetheless, he noted that PN has never discriminated based on religion, race, or skin color.
"In fact, PN representatives have been vocal in advocating for the rights of marginalised individuals," he added.
Meanwhile, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Youth believes that Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang will remain under PH in the state election, which is scheduled to take place in July or August.
According to Amanah National Youth Elections Bureau director, Asmaaliff Abdul Adam, the dominance is expected due to PH's track record in all three states during their previous administration.
"Despite facing significant challenges from PN, who is campaigning on divisive racial and religious issues, Amanah Youth is confident that PH will regain power in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang during the statepolls in July or August.
"In fact, PH's commendable administrative achievements in promoting fairness and integrity serve as a benchmark for continued public support. We are focusing on the issues that matter to the people," he told Sinar Harian.
Asmaaliff urged the public to support the current state government to establish a more effective administration over the next five years.
He stressed that Amanah Youth desires not only political leaders who are eloquent in speech but also prioritise vital matters such as providing clean water to the people, unlike the leaders of PN.
