SHAH ALAM - The police is reminding the public not to give attention to messages that are suspicious

Commercial crimes investigation department (CCID) director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said several new tactics were implemented to deceive the public.

He said he tracked down the new scam method which uses a bogus wedding invitation, as it had gone viral on WhatsApp.

"This new tactic asks for an individual to open the link prepared to receive the wedding invitation.

"However, that's the trick to steal information from the public and to make online transfers.

"The public are advised to avoid getting caught up in any message from questionable sources," he told Sinar on Monday.

Recently, a WhatsApp message had gone viral on WhatsApp regarding a wedding invitation asking an individual to open the link given.

The link itself was a trick from the scammer to siphon data from the user and make online transactions without the account owner's knowledge.

Ramli said the tactic used to deceive the public through WhatsApp was created recently.

He explained the tactic used by scammers combined all parties who knew one another to provide a response to the link given.

"The modus operandi for this new tactic involved the usage of data groups or contact list.

"The police ask for all parties and the public not to respond to links given through WhatsApp," he said.
