Zulinda Ramly makes history as first woman appointed as Maritime First Admiral

KUALA LUMPUR - Zulinda Ramly has made history today by becoming the first woman to be appointed as Maritime First Admiral.

At the age of 46, Zulinda is one of nine Malaysian Maritime officers who have been promoted to the rank of Maritime First Admiral.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) announced in a statement that Zulinda had previously held several significant positions within the agency.

"She has achieved notable success in leading various special operations against cross-border crimes, coordinating search and rescue operations (SAR) in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, and serving as the Task Force Leader of Operation Benteng (KGT 24.1), managing the entry of undocumented migrants (PATI) during the Covid-19 pandemic," the statement read.

Zulinda, a mother of four, had previously served as a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Officer before transferring to the Malaysian Maritime in October 2008.

She holds a Diploma in Technology Management (Maritime Defence Transport) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1998.

Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director Maritime Rear Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah was promoted to the rank of Maritime Rear Admiral and was appointed as Maritime Safety and Surveillance Division director.

Among the other officers promoted today is Maritime First Admiral Syed Islam Shahajam, who has been appointed as the Maritime First Admiral and will serve as the director of the Air Operations Division, as well as the director of the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS). - AWANI
