MUAR - All 245 Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates for the state election will sign a pledge letter to stick to the coalition's policies.

Its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the letter did not include any amount of fine as some parties had done before.

"We did not do that because we are confident that PN candidates will stick to their promises and take the oath. The promises have already been made in the Melaka and Johor elections and the 15th General Election.

"The pledge is usually to ensure that they are not involved in corruption and stick to the constitution and the law. We hope that they will stick to their position on the basis of PN," he said.

He said this after handed over 52 cows in conjunction with Pagoh Korban Perdana Event in Bukit Pasir on Saturday.

The Pagoh Member of Parliament added that all PN candidates must also undergo screening to ensure that they are 'clean' of any wrongdoing with the authorities as well as not facing bankruptcy.

"Before the selection was made, all future candidates need to go through a screening process thoroughly and be refined to meet the set criteria.

"The vetting process is carried out to ensure that they do not have records from the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and the Insolvency Department.

"This had been used as a guide. Essentially, we had prepared in advance before the Election Commission announces the candidate nomination date," he said.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also expressed confidence that PN would be able to sweep clean the seats in some states in the polls.

"Three states under PN administration led by Pas as Menteri Besar will remain in this state election.

"In fact, the total number of state seats that will be contested will also increase," he said.
