SHAH ALAM - The government is currently working to speed up targeted water subsidies to consumers.

Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the current low price of water has led to excessive wastage.

"My Arab friends find it strange when they see people here using excessive amounts of water for ablution (wudu). They don't do it themselves.

"We should pay attention to controlled water usage. For instance, in Australia, they have limited water supply."

"Therefore, it is a mistake for them to use tap water during drought because it should only be used for bathing," he said during Sinar's Town Hall Rakyat programme, tonight.

Proper water management by water companies are also crucial to ensure no wastage occurs through pipe leakages and theft, prevalent in Kelantan, he said.
