SHAH ALAM - Former Kedah Pas ulama council deputy chief, Sheikh Zainul Asri Mohd Romli, has issued an apology for his remarks during the Kedah Berselawat Assembly last Saturday.

He clarified that his speech was not directed at any specific party and expressed regret over its misinterpretation.

"I offer my sincere apologies to the Muslim community and all Malaysians who were offended or affected by my speech.

"I did not intend to target any party or engage in political discourse against any individuals," he said in a video shared on Twitter that lasted over three minutes on Tuesday.

Sheikh Zainul's statement, in which he expressed his hope for Allah's protection of Kedah from falling into the hands of Allah's enemies, led to public misunderstanding.

Following this, Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition filed a police report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Monday.

PH Media Mobilisation bureau chief Captain (B) Muhammad Yahaya expressed concern that the statement resembled propaganda, suggesting that only Pas and the Perikatan Nasional were aligned with Allah, while other parties were portrayed as enemies of Allah.

He highlighted the negative impact of such remarks, especially given the upcoming state elections, as they could foster feelings of animosity and extremism among the people.
