SHAH ALAM - Losing Selangor could spell the beginning of the end for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), says expert.

Universiti Putra Malaysia political analyst Datuk Prof Dr Jayum Anak Jawan said this is because Selangor has been PKR's the torchlight of their struggle.

He said Selangor would also be a prize possession for Perikatan Nasioanal (PN) and Bersatu.

Whereby in the Northern states, Jayum said Kedah will be a test of the political battle for Malay support.

"Kedah is going to be divided between Pas, Bersatu and Pakatan Harapan (PH) with PKR having the larger number compared to it's partner Amanah and DAP.

"If PH wins Kedah, it would boost their standing in the Malay community.

"Wrestling Kedah from PN would simply mean a status quo as the Kedah government is won through Pas which the most seats and was assisted by Bersatu," Jayum told Sinar Daily.

Therefore, Jayum said losing Kedah would be bad for Pas and Bersatu.

Jayum added respective political parties who won new states that they have never won before would be taken as a huge endorsement and would mean theur political fortune is on the rise.

"Losing states that they held prior to the elections could also spell the beginning of their decline," he said.

Meanwhile, political analyst Dr Oh Ei Sun said Kedah would be the only PN-controlled state that could switch to the Unity Government side.

"If it does, it would be a huge blow to the onslaught of the green wave. "

Selangor is not only the crown jewel of PH controlled states, but also the most economically significant state of the country," he reasoned.

Oh said it is also possible for PN to deliver a huge blow to PH in the upcoming state elections.

"If Selangor and Negeri Sembilan fall to PN, it could also presage the eventual downfall of the unity government," he said.
