SHAH ALAM - The Transport Ministry strongly recommends that the public continue wearing masks while using trains and buses.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook stressed that although it is no longer mandatory, it is highly encouraged.

"May all passengers stay healthy and safe!" he said on Facebook on Thursday.

Starting from July 5, the use of masks inside public transportation and healthcare facilities will no longer be mandatory.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa noted that individuals who test positive for Covid-19 must wear masks, and those in healthcare facilities must adhere to Infection Prevention and Control practices when interacting with patients.

"Wearing masks is highly recommended for individuals at high risk, such as senior citizens, individuals with chronic illnesses, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant mothers, especially in crowded areas or places with poor ventilation," she said on Thursday.

She also added that individuals experiencing respiratory symptoms should avoid infecting others while using public transportation services, including buses, trains, planes, taxis, e-hailing services, and school vans.
