Cuepacs criticises minister's behaviour, urges govt to probe the incident
SHAH ALAM - The Civil Service Employees' Union Congress (Cuepacs) urges the government to carry out a detailed investigation into the incident over the breach of the standard operating procedures and security protocol at KLIA.
Its president, Datuk Haji Adnan Mat, said in a statement that Cuepacs was very disappointed as it was a violation of national security protocols as well as interfering with the duties of civil servants.
"As an individual with ministerial status, it is inappropriate to do such things. "All parties, including national leaders, should give full trust to the authorities who carry out their duties.
"It is inappropriate for such behaviour because it clearly violates security procedures or standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been set," Adnan said.
He also said if there was a misunderstanding in the process of arresting tourists involved, the minister involved could provide assistance based on the procedure or obtain clearer information first from the authorities at the airport.
Besides conducting a full investigation, he further expressed his hopes for the Malaysian authorities to ensure that similar incidents will not repeat themselves in the future.
No one was bigger than the law, he added, adding that action should be taken against the minister in order to avoid a repeat of the incident.
Earlier, a local portal reported the commotion where a minister purportedly barged into the international arrivals hall to defend a Chinese national barred from entering Malaysia.
The report also quoted a source, revealing that the minister learned about the incident and entered the KLIA arrivals hall without first applying for a pass.
However, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that he has not received any report of this incident as of yet, but he believes the airport authorities will conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
"I have not received any reports regarding the incident. I think the airport authorities will conduct a more detailed investigation into what transpired," he told media members at KLIA Terminal 2 today.
