KUALA LUMPUR - The Civil Defence Force (APM) will streamline the recruitment of contract staff, including in terms of grade, before discussions with the Public Service Department (JPA) over approval for them to be absorbed into permanent posts.

APM director-general Aminurrahim Mohamed said the move is in line with the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) guidelines and focuses on recruitment at the state and district levels, especially in remote areas.

Aminurrahim was speaking to reporters after attending the ‘Ibadah Korban’ programme at the APM headquarters, here, today.

In another matter, he said a total of 427 personnel are on standby to tackle any situation arising from the westerly winds forecast for northern states of the peninsula that could lead to thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.

The APM will also raise 40 red flags on beach towers where westerly winds could occur.

"We will monitor beach areas popular with the public and ban visitors from swimming,” said.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said northern states in the Peninsular, including their waters, are expected to experience strong westerly winds until July 5. - BERNAMA
