SHAH ALAM - A police report and immediate investigation must be carried out to identify individuals known as ‘geng penyakau’ (political thieves) to uphold the principles of fighting against corruption and abuse of power.

Pertubuhan Aspirasi Wanita Malaysia (Aswa) chairman Wan Azliana Wan Adnan said the report was important to show that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was serious about dealing with the case and ensuring that further action could be taken.

She extortion is a crime and if no action was taken, the issue could never be resolved.

"If the Prime Minister knows that there is corruption, but he is being blackmailed, he should lodge a police report. Otherwise, investigations cannot be carried out.

"In his speech last Friday, it seemed like the ‘geng penyakau besar’ (big thieves) were Malays.

"So this is a serious accusation and can be considered as incitement," she said when contacted, today.

She said it was statement that could cause speculations and that such matter was not just a rhetoric, but something that needed to be resolved immediately.

Wan Azliana added that the authorities especially the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) needed to find out if there really were corruption and power abuse.

"If there really is this gang involved in corruption, we want action to be taken against all of them and to investigate them followed by prosecution if there are evidences.

"If it is not overcome, this issue will not end until the country changes leaders who may express the same principles and then get threatened, so it is high time to get rid of this gang regardless of race," she said.
