Consider Madinah Charter to prioritise Islam, reject secularism, liberalism in country's leadership, says Hadi

SHAH ALAM - Malaysians performing Haj and Umrah should consider the Madinah Charter as a model for the country's administration, based on Islamic Shariah.
Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the charter clearly placed Islam as a priority in determining cooperation in the pluralistic society with obligation to reject secularism, liberalism, 'Malaysian Malaysia' and related ideas.
"It is enshrined in the Federal Constitution of Malaysia that Islam is the religion of the Federation (Article 3 [1]), it is up to us to defend Islam as al-din (according to the Quran)," he said on Facebook today.
The Marang MP said by studying the historic charter, it taught Muslims to reach an agreement with non-Muslim without compromising Islam with them.
He said the concept of a pluralistic country from an Islamic perspective involves establishing a nation where leadership is seen as an act of worship, gives zakat (charitable giving), amar ma'ruf (benevolence) and reject evil with a vision of the afterlife.
"Therefore, Haj and Umrah pilgrims are obligated to sincerely study it for the sake of Allah.
"Being a true and faithful followers of the prophet is not just halfway through the journey," he said.
Hadi also expressed concern over the attitude of some Haj or Umrah pilgrims who were not serious about performing the worship.
