Meta, MCMC, police to collaborate in curbing online crimes - Fahmi

Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil said the move was made following a rise in online fraud and gambling cases as well as the 3R issues relating to religion, royalty and race now.
"Losses suffered by Malaysians from January to May 2023 via Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) have almost exceeded RM330 million.
"This is a 25 per cent increase compared to the whole year in 2022,” he said in a Facebook post today after chairing a meeting with Meta, MCMC and PDRM at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman here today.
Also present were KKD deputy minister Teo Nie Ching, KKD deputy secretary-general Ma Sivanesan, MCMC chairman Tan Sri Salim Fateh Din, CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Dr Amiruddin Abdul Wahab, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain as well as PDRM top management.
Also present was Daniel Lim, Meta Public Policy Lead and Manager for Malaysia and Singapore.
As a result of the meeting, he said Meta has expressed a commitment to have close cooperation with MCMC and PDRM to curb online crime.
"I believe that the cooperation established allows scams, online gambling and 3R issues on the Meta platform to be reduced," he said. - BERNAMA
