SHAH ALAM - DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng is being investigated regarding statements that allegedly touched on racial sensitivities during a program in Penang last Friday.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department Deputy Director (Forensics and Strategic Planning) Datuk G Suresh Kumar stated that they had previously received several reports regarding the statements made by Lim Guan Eng.

"The police have received reports related to Guan Eng's statement which is alleged to have touched on 3R issues , namely the 'green wave' that will destroy temples and deny religious rights in Penang.

"The statement by the Bagan member of Parliament is believed to have been made during his speech at the 'Tian Fu Gong Bai Long Wang Singapore - Malaysia Tour 2023' program at the Batu Temple, Jelutong, Penang, on July 7," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said that investigations are currently being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"The investigation is being carried out by the Elite Crime Investigation Unit, D5 Division, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.

"The public is reminded not to make any speculation that could disrupt the investigation process," he said.

Last Friday, a local news portal quoted a report in a Mandarin language newspaper stating that Guan Eng warned Penang voters to block the 'green wave' from gaining a foothold in the state.

The statement was also condemned by several leaders, including Umno Youth Chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh who called for the police to investigate the matter.

However, Guan Eng denied making the statement and claimed that it had been twisted.
