KUALA LUMPUR - The Communications and Digital Ministry through the Broadcasting Department will publish the details on the Rahmah Truck Sales Programme nationwide.

Its minister, Fahmi Fadzil said this was to make the people aware of the locations and dates where they can enjoy savings on raw materials and necessities.

"I have also asked the Madani community in the field as well as the Information Department officers to pass the word around when the Rahmah Sales programme is held in their areas.

"We believe this will be helpful, especially to those in areas that are facing issues or need a bit of assistance (in terms of necessities)," he told a press conference after launching the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation’s (MDEC) publication, Horizon here today.

Fahmi also said a report from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry showed that the Rahmah Sales Programme has been very popular and brought relief in terms of the cost of goods and substantial savings.

In refuting several local media reports on the increase in the price of consumer goods, Fahmi explained that Malaysia's inflation rate had eased in May 2023 with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) falling to 2.8 per cent according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) report.

"Actually, the communication sector showed a very sharp decrease of -4 per cent, so it is deflation not inflation and indeed if we look at the food in the list, raw materials and so forth, the increase is very minimal," he said.

Fahmi also said that the ministry would extend the report on the issue over the increase in the price of goods to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry for further action including enforcement.
