Husband, wife die in crash after sending off child to college

GOPENG - A married couple died after their Proton Perdana car crashed into a fence of a premises at Kilometre 3.5, Jalan Gopeng-Kota Bharu today.

In the accident which happened at about 5.20pm, the victims, Mohd Ramddan Abd Rahim, 44, and his wife, Kisdalliana Saad, 43, who was the rear seat passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Kisdalliana's 63-year-old mother and the couple's seven-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries on the head.

It is understood that the married couple had just registered their child at the Perak Matriculation College and went out to buy essentials before they were involved in an accident while trying to send the items (to their child).

Kampar district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud said according to the initial report that was received, the car was believed to have lost control and crashed.

"Investigations found that the location of the incident was ​​at a used tyre processing factory. The vehicle was driven from Gopeng heading towards Kota Bharu.

"The car was found to be on top of the fence with the two victims were found near the vehicle. It is understood that the bodies of the victims were moved by the fire and rescue department," he said.

Nazri said the two injured victims were sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for treatment.

He added that the cause of the accident was still being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon said the rescue operation was carried out by personnel from the Gopeng fire station.

"There was one man stuck in the passenger's seat while three others were extracted from the vehicle by members of the public.

"The team used rescue equipment to remove the trapped victim before the victim was handed over to the police for further action," he said.
