SHAH ALAM - Bersatu has never rejected the formation of a state based on a multicultural society in Malaysia.

Bersatu supreme council member Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub said this is the party's position as the country is based on diversity of races, cultures and religions.

"We have never rejected the foundation of this country as the current leader was in the previous party, Umno.

"Bersatu is the successor to Umno which carries the mandate of the people, especially the Malays and Muslims," he said during Sinar Harian's wacana titled "State polls: Many Unresolved issues?' broadcast on all Sinar Harian platforms, tonight.

Other panelists were DAP Central Committee Member, RSN Rayer; Terengganu Umno chief, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and Central Pas Working Committee Member, Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki.

The programme was hosted by Ismail Adnan.

Yadzil also said that Bersatu want unity within the people, form a clean government and to raise the voice of the Malays.

"We would still continue with the 'No Anwar, No DAP' campaign and reject the principles brought by DAP, that is why we reject the current Unity Government.

"We chose to be the opposition so that we are more effective in raising people's voice," he said.

Commenting further on the party's top leadership being involved in corruption cases, Yadzil said it is difficult but every struggle has its sacrifices.

He added that in facing the situation, Bersatu does not depend on Pas, but the two parties need each other.

"Pas has three states, it holds the majority of seats, they are fixed seats that cannot be changed," he said.

But in Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, the majority is still Bersatu, Yadzil said.

"We respect each other, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin respects the position of Pas in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, Hadi respects Bersatu and the other three states," he said.
