Central Committee member of DAP RSN Rayer said DAP is only demonised by certain parties who claim that the party marginalises Malays.
"This party does not advocate for any specific race because we also have members from the Malay community, such as Young Syefura Othman.
"We do not exploit others and invitations have also been made. Their involvement in joining DAP is because we fight for the welfare and interests of all races," he said.
He said this during the Sinar Series 405 discourse titled "State Polls: Many Unresolved Issues," held at the Karangkraf Group Complex, tonight.
The programme was hosted by Ismail Adnan and featured three other panelists: Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub, Bersatu's Supreme Leadership Council Member; Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, Umno Terengganu chief; and Dr. Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki, Pas Central Working Committee member.
Rayer said that DAP does not sideline the rights of other races and cited Penang as an example of the party's administration.
"I invite the public to come and visit Penang to witness what we have accomplished in this state. Our priority is to ensure that the multicultural society in Penang remains strong and united," he said.
He further said that words and advice from the late Kelantan Chief Minister, Tan Sri Nik Aziz Nik Mat are held as a guiding principle.
He said that Nik Aziz had suggested gotong royong at graveyards or mosques to be held every Ramadan.
Rayer added that the former Pas spiritual leader is also worthy of being an icon of unity because he never raised divisive issues.
"He never made statements that could hurt the feelings of the Indian or Chinese communities in our country. However, it is different with some current leaders of Pas who claim that the Chinese and Indian communities are more prone to corruption," he said.
The police have arrested five men, one of them badly injured, following a fight at the Jalan Sungai People’s Housing Project Flats here early today.
