PUTRAJAYA - Former controversial company 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) lawyer Jasmine Loo Ai Swan has been arrested by police.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the ministry believed that Loo had information on the 1MDB case.

"She was arrested on Friday and remanded starting on Saturday," he said in a press conference at the Home Ministry, today.

He said the investigations on the woman were made following Section 409 of the Penal Code.

"The police would surely have several matters that must be investigated and the lawyer representing Loo have stated that their client was prepared to cooperate with the police and the government," he said.

In November 2021, the public prosecutor filed a motion notice to forfeit two cars, an Audi and a Volkswagen New Beetle, money amounting to RM22,600 and a condominium in Mont Kiara here which belonged to Loo.

Loo was said to be a close acquaintance to the businessman on the run Low Taek Jho or Jho Low who was involved in the 1MDB scandal as well as listed as a wanted individual after he fled, with his whereabouts still unknown.

Last year, Bloomberg reported Switzerland investigators looking into the crimes of the 1MDB scandal, hunting former 1MDB Business Development Executive Director Casey Tang Keng Chee and Loo regarding the transfer of US$700 million claimed to be done illegally.

The report stated both were under investigation for corruption, public official misconduct, money laundering and criminal activities.
