TAIPING - A 22-month-old girl was found positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine while receiving treatment at the Taiping Hospital on Tuesday.

Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said the girl was sent to her grandmother's home in Changkat Jering as her mother went to buy groceries from a convenience store.

"While trying to sleep, the girl cried and showed uncontrollable actions, prompting her mother to bring her to the hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement earlier today.

Razlam said police arrested the girl’s 22-year-old mother, who tested positive for methamphetamine in a urine test.

The mother has a prior drug record.

“The remand application will be made. The girl is reported to be in a stable condition and is still receiving treatment at the hospital,” he said.

Razlam said investigations are being conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
