PUTRAJAYA - The government has announced that pensions and issued pensions for July to December of this year will be paid using the original pension amount.

This is in line with the decision of the Federal Court on June 27, 2023, which ruled that Sections 3 and 7 of the Pension Adjustment Act (Amendment) 2013 [Act A1447] are invalid.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the government will continue to pay the difference between the current pension amount and the original pension amount in the form of special assistance called the Special Pensioner Appreciation.

“This is to make the amount received by retirees the same as the current pension amount, which is the pension amount in June 2023,” he said in a statement today.

Anwar said that the government will also study the review of public service salaries and will involve public service retirees in the process.

“Pension adjustment will be implemented according to the percentage increase that has been set in accordance with the Pension Adjustment Act 1980 [Act 238].

“The results of this decision are expected to have a positive impact on civil servants, civil service retirees and the government,” he said.
