KUALA LUMPUR - Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is now under investigation for his statements that allegedly berated the Selangor Sultan.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said investigation papers on the 3R (royalty, race, and religion) issue have been opened following this on Wednesday.

"We have opened 61 cases regarding the 3R issue since March 27, including the recent case involving Sanusi," he said in a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters here on Thursday.

Razarudin said investigation papers relating to the 3R issue involving politicians, former politicians, and NGOs have been opened previously.

"Other than Sanusi, we are also investigating former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, and Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang," he said.

Razarudin said he had established a special team consisting of 21 officers and staff to carry out investigations on these 3R cases.

"Cases investigated involving the 3R issues were under the Penal Code, the Sedition Act 1948, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"Investigation papers were completed and sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers for further action," he said.

Razarudin said he found 3R issues were often played up near elections.

"Sometimes certain parties go too far when slandering and humiliating others, "Whatever sensitive issue relating to the 3R would be investigated immediately, and any parties found attempting to use this issue would not be exempt from legal action," he said.
