SELAYANG - An elderly woman sobs uncontrollably when she was hauled to the magistrate's court here today for allegedly splashing acid on a married couple, last week.

The woman who was clad in a blue 'jubah' (robe) arrived at the court's compound at 9am escorted by policewomen.

On Thursday, acting Gombak district police chief Superintendent Noor Arifin Mohamad Nasir said the suspect in her 60s would be charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury using a weapon.

Last week, it was reported that a married couple who ran a naan bread shop was splashed with acid as they entered the elevator at the Laksamana Jaya apartment in Batu Caves, Gombak.

The incident was recorded by a closed circuit camera (CCTV) installed in the apartment building, which had since been circulated on social media.

The video showed an individual who stood near the victims while waiting for an elevator before she splashed liquid which was believed to be acid to the couple.

The victims, a 60-year-old local woman and her Pakistani husband received treatment at Selayang Hospital.

Six days after the incident, an elderly woman was arrested to assist in the investigation into the case.
