HULU SELANGOR - Hulu Selangor Umno expresses regret over Parti Amanah Negara's (Amanah) hasty attitude in announcing that they will contest in the Hulu Bernam seat.

Umno Hulu Selangor division chief Datuk Mohd Isa Abu Kasim said Amanah should not mess with the seats that were Barisan Nasional's (BN) stronghold in Hulu Selangor.

He said the Hulu Bernam State Legislative Assembly has been represented by Umno for decades and had never lost in any election because the party defended the seat.

“...the question is, why is the Amanah state and division in such a hurry to make such a statement when the top leadership of the PH and BN coalition has not decided or issued a statement regarding the change of the state assembly involved?

“As a coalition partner, in the effort to form the state government, I request Amanah or any coalition party to maintain decency and mutual respect for the common good,” he said in a statement, yesterday.

The Hulu Bernam state assembly was held by Hulu Selangor Wanita Umno chief Datuk Rosni Sohar, for two terms after she won in the 13th General Election (GE13) and GE14.

On Thursday, Amanah Hulu Selangor Youth chief Abdul Mun’im Roslin announced that the party would replace BN in the Hulu Bernam state election in the Selangor state election that will be held on Aug 12.

Mun’im said his party was grateful for the trust of the Amanah leadership at the state and central levels and BN, especially Umno, in reaching a consensus on the decision.

In the meantime, Isa said Mun’im’s statement was a significant blow to him as the top leader of Umno in the division.

He said since Friday, he had constantly been in contact with the BN leadership and supporters, especially in the state assembly involved, to find out the true position of the seats in the state assembly.

“As long as the Selangor Umno liaison body and the PH-BN leadership have not made a decision or officially given the final say, the Hulu Bernam state seat remains BN’s,” he said.

He also appealed to all BN leaders including Umno and supporters to remain calm in facing the situation ahead of the state polls.
