IPOH - Perak residents seized the opportunity to settle police summonses at a 50 per cent discount at the Kita Madani Carnival, held in conjunction with the launch of the National Month celebrations and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2023 campaign, at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru Raya here today.

Lim Guek Cheng, 61, settled three outstanding summonses at RM450 compared to the original amount of RM900.

Lim said the 50 per cent reduction helped, to a certain extent, ease her burden as she now only depends on her monthly pension to support herself.

"The three summonses, for speeding offences, would have cost me RM900. So, when you get a 50 per cent reduction, you really feel very grateful.

"Thank you to the police. I hope there will be more discounts like this so it will help the public,” she told Bernama.

A Bernama survey found that the public was willing to queue up at the police counters to take advantage of the discount.

Meanwhile, pensioner Kaharudin Kamar, 69, urged the police to review mandatory road offences.

"For me, this matter needs to be refined again,” he said.
