IPOH - A standard three schoolgirl from Sekolah Kebangsaan Perpaduan here suffered minor injuries after a toilet tank dislodged and fell on her yesterday.

Perak Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Exco Khairudin Abu Hanipah said the student was treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) and was released after X-ray scans showed that she did not suffer any serious injuries.

He said the incident occurred when the student was using the toilet before the tank fell and hit her.

“The school immediately contacted her parents and took her to HRPB. The student is now recovering at home,” he said in a statement today.

Khairudin said he had ordered the school to ensure that any upgrading works to the toilets were carried out according to specifications to prevent similar incidents from happening.

He also said that 700 schools in Perak had received allocations from the Education Ministry to upgrade their toilets.

“The upgrade works must be completed by October this year. I hope the State Education Department will set up a task force to monitor the effectiveness of the works,” he said.

He also urged contractors to follow the set standards when carrying out the upgrade works to ensure the safety of students.
