SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin will be taking legal action against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for defamation over the latter's claim that the Perikatan Nasional government did not settle RM8.3 billion in Felda settlers’ debt.

In a Facebook post, Muhyiddin said the two documents produced earlier by Anwar, did not concern the waiver of the RM8.3 billion owed by settlers but the issuance of sukuk.

"Since Anwar failed to issue an unconditional public apology within 24 hours, I have instructed my lawyer to proceed with a defamation suit against him," he said.

The former prime minister also said that the documents produced by Anwar today were related to the government guarantee amounting to RM9.9 billion.

"The documents show that Anwar did not understand the content of the documents that he signed as Finance Minister.

"This is dangerous. I wonder what documents or contracts he signed in his capacity as Prime Minister and Finance Minister without understanding or knowing the contents," he said.

It was reported yesterday that Muhyiddin demanded an open and unconditional apology from Anwar for his claims that the Felda settler's debt had never been waived under Muhyiddin's administration.

Earlier today, as proof, Anwar produced two documents: a government guarantee issued to Felda and a RM990 million payment instruction from the government to the authority.
