Felda settlers' debt waiver issue: Muhyiddin ready to face Anwar in court

KOTA BHARU - Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says he is ready to face Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in court over the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers' debt waiver issue.

Muhyiddin said he was not afraid even though Anwar has demanded for a RM200 million compensation.

“Never mind, let’s go to court because I am innocent,” he said in his speech during the Munajat Rakyat Kelantan Ppakat Pertahan and Leadership Mandate programme at the Sultan Muhammad IV stadium, here, last night.

The Pagoh MP claimed that Anwar did not know the differences between a waiver and sukuk.

During his administration, Muhyiddin said Felda was facing a lot of problems including inefficiency in financial management, a decline in income and unpaid debts which were impossible to settle.

“It involved debts amounting to almost RM12 billion. At that time, we took the opportunity to help the Felda settlers in 2021 by waiving RM8.3 billion of their debts.

“However, the Prime Minister said I was lying when I did not lie and had proof,” he said.

Earlier, Anwar who is Tambun MP demanded an apology and RM200 million in compensation from Muhyiddin for damaging his reputation over the issue.

Through his reply to Muhyiddin’s letter of demand (LOD), Anwar said he will initiate a legal action against his predecessor if the latter did not abide to all of his demands within 24 hours from the date of the letter of his reply to the LOD.

The letter (reply) Anwar made through law firm SN Nair & Partners, was addressed to Muhyiddin’s lawyers at law firm Messrs Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership.
