PONTIAN - "My late father once told me, if he dies, let it be while he is working for the people," said the eldest son of the late Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Iskandar Zulkarnain, 37, said his father had given him and his five siblings a lot of great advice. The family understood that his father belonged to the people.

"As children, we have long considered that our father belonged to the people. He is indeed (made) for the people. We have been taught since little that he won't always be with us as he was always with the rakyat.

"There are too many of his advice, among which he told us not to interfere with his work affairs, and he taught us to be independent and not depend on him.

"We accept that he has 'achieved' his 'dream' (of dying while for performing his duty for the rakyat)," he said when met at Jamek Dato' Haji Noh Gadot Mosque here on Monday.

Previously, Iskandar performed the funeral rites for Salahuddin, one of his last requests.

Iskandar, who represented the family, asked all parties to pray for his late father, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister

"If there is something bad, if he made a mistake and said something rude, we apologise on his behalf," he said.
