Corporal, constable remanded for accepting bribery of RM3,000
GEORGETOWN - Two corporals and a constable on duty at one of the police stations were remanded for three days to assist in the investigation into allegedly accepting RM3,000 bribes from a man.
The men, aged 20, 36 and 38 were remanded at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Penang headquarters at 7.25pm on Monday.
The three policemen were accused of committing the offence in Jalan Berapit, Mengkuang, Bukit Mertajam at 7.15pm, last July 20.
They were in a Honda Civic police patrol car when they allegedly stopped a motorcyclist to inspect the motorcycle he was riding on.
The inspection found that the road tax of the man's motorcycle had expired and he also had on him a packet of ‘ketum’ water and several packs of cigarettes.
However, the three of them were suspected of receiving a bribe amounting to RM3,000 from the individual, in return for not taking action on the offense he committed.
Following that, all the police officers involved were remanded until July 27.
All members were not represented by lawyers.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Mohd Hadi Hakimi Harun at the Georgetown Magistrate Court after the remand application was made by the MACC.
The case was investigated in accordance with Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
