SHAH ALAM - Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, has expressed that former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, not being an Umno member, should not be voicing his opinion on Umno's candidacy for the Selangor MB deputy position.

"That is Khairy's viewpoint, but he is not an Umno member," Amirudin told reporters after attending the Town Hall session at Karangkraf Mall here yesterday.

Recently, during the Keluar Sekejap podcast session with his co-host Shahril Hamdan, Khairy mentioned that Umno Supreme Council member and political secretary to Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Umno President), Datuk Megat Zulkarnain, aspired to become the Selangor Deputy Menteri Besar.

However, Khairy believed that this might not be possible if Zafrul (presumably a candidate from Pakatan Harapan) took up the position.

"Megat knows he cannot become the Selangor Menteri Besar because it has to be from Pakatan Harapan, unless Zafrul wins.

"If Umno wins one or two seats, Zafrul can become MB.

"Megat is concerned because if Zafrul becomes MB, he will not be the deputy MB as it will come from Pakatan Harapan.

"The MB position can have a deputy MB or not, and currently, Selangor does not have one, which is not a problem," Khairy said.

Meanwhile, Amirudin also mentioned that it is too early to determine who will be the upcoming Selangor MB.

"It is still very premature, so let's focus on winning first, and then we can determine who will be the MB and who will be in the exco," he said.
