Politically Frank: Blood thicker than water, Mukhriz on his dad

SHAH ALAM - Although Dr Mahathir Mohamed has left Pejuang, his son said the relationship between him and his father remains strong.

“We’re still good.

"People say blood is thicker than water,” Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, the Pejuang president said during Sinar Daily’s Politically Frank Programme.

On February 10, Mahathir announced his departure from the party.

He further said despite what people may say about their relationship, he and his father still maintain a strong connection.

They meet regularly and engage in political discussions from time to time, although not as frequently as before.

Speaking on Kulim Hi-Tech Park, the thriving hub of Kedah's advanced manufacturing sector that has managed to attract foreign investors, he recalled his time as Kedah menteri besar when he was deeply focused on bringing certain industries to the region.

He said the ecosystem built in Kulim and Penang played a crucial role in this success, making significant strides in the advancement of these industries.

“During my time, we were very successful, particularly with firms from China, Europe, Germany, for example and I think the ecosystem that we built, not just in there, but also in Penang which made it somewhat successful,” he said.

In February, former Pejuang central executive council member Abu Bakar Yahya said Dr Mahathir had confirmed that he left the party after his disappointment with his son's impatience of wanting to forge a relationship with a coalition larger than Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) which is either the unity government or Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He had said the action of the Pejuang leaders spearheaded by Mukhriz to sever the party's ties with GTA was the reason for Dr Mahathir and 12 members to step down.
