SEREMBAN - People in Negeri Sembilan have been urged to strengthen their patriotic spirit regardless of their different political ideologies ahead of the state polls on Aug 12.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said in the context of facing the state polls and celebrating the national month, the love for the country should precede political differences, especially among the younger generation who are starting to perform their responsibility as voters in the upcoming elections.

"Ahead of the nomination day (July 29), all parties are racing to raise their respective flags to capture the hearts of voters and in this context, love for the country should precede the spirit of political affiliations.

"Hence, efforts to strengthen this unity need to continue to raise the awareness among youths, especially the importance of maintaining the unity we inherited from the previous generations,” he said while speaking at the state-level Kibar Jalur Gemilang launching ceremony here today.

He said the voice of the youths who will be casting votes for the first time will shape the results in the elections.

Aminuddin said their involvement in the process of forming state and national leadership is a form of patriotism.

"Programmes such as the flying of the Jalur Gemilang also serve as a platform to inculcate the mentality and attitude of the community to recognise and respect the symbol of national identity and boost the spirit of patriotism,” he said. - BERNAMA
