KUALA LUMPUR - Good Vibes Festival (GVF) organiser said today they had booked the English award winning band The 1975 as there were no untoward incident for the past four years.
Future Sound Asia director of entertainment Wan Alman Ariffin said the last incident was in 2019 where Matt Healy defied Dubai's anti-LGBTQ laws by kissing a male audience member during a gig.
"Ever since, they have played many shows, without any issues and even played at Singapore without any issues," he said during Setting the Record Straight press conference, here.
However, he said he could not comment on reasons for the whole show to be cancelled.
"I can't comment on what led Communications and Digital Minster Fahmi Fadzil to cancel the whole GVF.
"We don't know the discussions he had with authorities and police with stakeholders as well," he
Recently, during the GVF British band, the 1975 was cut short after Matt Healy's controversial kiss with his bandmate Ross MacDonald in Malaysia.
He was seen performing while holding a bottle of alcohol and slammed Malaysia's LGBT laws.
Homosexuality remains a crime in Malaysia, punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
