SEREMBAN - Three Indian candidates from the Pas non-Muslim supporters' wing (DHPP) in Negeri Sembilan will be contesting in the state elections.

The three candidates are P Kumar (Bahau), N Sathes Kumar (Mambau), and S Ragu (Lukut).

State Pas chief Rafiei Mustapha said this is the first time the party has fielded non-Muslim candidates in the state.

"We have always given opportunities to our non-Muslim supporters. When we looked at the ethnic composition in the respective seats, it was appropriate to place candidates from DHPP.

"We are confident that they have the potential to win," he told Sinar after Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates for Negeri Sembilan were announced, today.

When asked about the possibility of DAP playing the issue of Pas selecting non-Muslim candidates, Rafie said he is prepared for that narrative and believes it will not affect the voters.

"Pas' decision to choose non-Muslim candidates demonstrates that the party is not racist and those who are eligible to represent them are those who understand the concept of a multicultural society and show a moderate attitude.

"Moreover, they are not against Islam," he said.

Meanwhile, Rafie was announced as the candidate for Pilah and he will be competing against the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, Noor Zunita Begum Mohd Ibrahim from PKR.

Rafie was a candidate for the Port Dickson parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election but lost in the five-cornered contest, which saw PKR Negeri Sembilan chief Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun winning the seat.
