Penang state poll: Three-cornered fight for Bukit Tambun seat

SEBERANG PRAI - It was a bright and cheerful atmosphere to start the journey of the Penang state poll starting today with the nomination of candidates from various political parties specifically for the N18 Bukit Tambun state seat.

Here, hundreds of Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, Pakatan Harapan (PH), and independent candidate supporters cheered for their respective candidates with songs and dances to lift the candidates’ spirits.

The supporters gathered at Dewan Al-Azim, Kolej Vokasional Seberang Perai nomination centre arrived as early as 7.30am, and it was tightly monitored by police officers for crowd control.

For this state seat, Goh Choon Aik is PH candidate and he was expected to contest against Tan Gia Wei from PN and an independent candidate Samuganathan Muniandy.

This was announced by state Election Commission returning officer Ahmad Zabri Mohamed Sarajudin at 10.41am here.

The candidates from all political parties were given an hour time (9am-10am) to submit their nomination forms.

Besides Bukit Tambun state seat, there were also two legislative assemblies filing their nomination namely Perai (N16) and Bukit Tengah (N17).

Besides Penang, EC set Aug 12 as polling day for other states, Selangor, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu.
