GOMBAK - Former Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said he did not run to another area by contesting for the Hulu Kelang state seat in the polls.

Azmin said Hulu Kelang was where he started his political journey when given the mandate in 1999 when he was chosen as Gombak MP.

"Hulu Kelang has been part of the Gombak Parliament so there are no issues of me running away as what was claimed by my enemies.

"The ones who ran from their political base were those like the Permatang Pauh (MP) running to Port Dickson, to Tambun.

"However, Hulu Kelang represented my home and I was raised in Kampung Kelang Gate Baru since 1968 and my parents' home was one the first in the area," he claimed.

He said such when met by reporters after the Hulu Kelang state assembly candidate nomination process at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Pusu Candidate Nomination Centre here on Saturday.

Hulu Kelang will witness a two corner clash between Azmin against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Juwairiya Zulkifli, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar's Political Secretary Juwairiya Zulkifli.

The Hulu Kelang state assembly Election Committee (EC) managing officer Khairul Aizawati Khalid stated Azmin and Juwairiya's nomination papers were received at 9.03am and 9.15am respectively.

Azmin arrived at the candidate nomination centre accompanied by a march of over 5,000 supporters and the coalition party machinery led by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Azmin said he was confident with his achievements and track records and that voters would support him to enable PN to win the seat.

"I'm confident (to win) because what we saw earlier (PN march) is the wave of the public unrest not only in Gombak, but the entirety of the nation on the carelessness and failure of the Putrajaya administration to overcome the issues of the people.

"They (the government) have not been focusing on the economic, cost of living and inflation issues plagueing the country at the time," he said.

When asked on his competition Azmin explained Juwairiya's nomination would surely have the people see the unity government's performance.

"The people will look at the leadership and what could be brought by the representatives. My competition comes from PH, that is surely enough to have the party seen as not having a successful record eight months after being given their task.

"Insya-Allah I believe that the Hulu Kelang, Gombak and Selangor people would look towards the future of the state under PN," he added.
