SABAK BERNAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) supports the actions of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) which is conducting an investigation into the viral photo of Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil speaking at a mosque in Rawang on Sunday.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) Secretary General Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said action should be taken on anyone who violated the laws and regulations set by Jais, regardless of the political party.

"I am confident that Jais is doing something fair and the people will understand that this agency is (strict) to any party (that commits an offence)," he said.

He said this when met at the Sungai Air Tawar machinery assembly at Tarbiah Pas Headquarters in Bagan Nakhoda Omar here on Monday night.

Hamzah said that Jais as an Islamic organisation in this state should be respected and Muslims, especially leaders, should be advised to comply with the laws, regulations and guidelines that have been set.

"Whoever is wrong and violates the orders (and regulations) that have been made, then action should be taken.

"Don't let only one party do (mistakes), (while the other party) can't," he said.

He said if fair action was taken. the people would be able to judge and trust the agency.

Hamzah said other government agencies should also follow the example of Jais, which conducts investigations fairly and without bias.

"We don't want other government agencies to show favouritism and there is no justice, especially involving PN leaders," he said.

Hamzah pointed out that leaders who violated Jais’ rulings were also considered disobedient to the order of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who had forbidden any politician who does not have a certificate to speak in a mosque or surau.

Commenting on Fahmi's statement explaining that his speech in a mosque only revolved around the issue of The 1975 group without touching on political matters, Hamzah said that the act was still a mistake.

"Talking about The 1975 group in a surau or a mosque is a bigger mistake," he said.

Sinar Harian on Monday reported that Jais confirmed receiving a complaint regarding the photo of Fahmi speaking in the main prayer hall of the Nurul Yaqin Mosque, Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang, Rawang on Sunday.

Its director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said further investigation would be carried out in accordance with Section 12 of the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Selangor) 1995 for suspicion of insulting religious authorities.

Fahmi in his statement on Facebook explained that his speech at the mosque in Kuang, Rawang only revolved around the issue of The 1975 group without touching on politics or campaigning for the upcoming state polls.
