PUTRAJAYA - Communications and Multimedia Minister Fahmi Fadzil mulls lawsuit against those who had defamed him.

This was in regards with a speech he gave at the Nurul Yaqin mosque in Kampung Seri Kundang, Rawang on Sunday.

"I had never mentioned about political issues or things related to the state elections," he said when met after delivering a keynote address at the Public Sector Day Malaysia, here, today.

He said he was ready to cooperate with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) over the matter.

He said an invitation by the mosque's committee members was to explain about the issue on the ban of British band The 1975 from performing in the country and the cancellation of The Good Vibes Festival 2023 which was being politicised by irresponsible parties.

"I condemn attempts to politicise issues and spread slanders," he said.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said he was aware of Jais' statement that the department was investigating the complaints made over the matter.

"I have not checked (whether there is a call from Jais), but if I was called, I am ready to come forward," he said.

Yesterday, Jais confirmed several complaints over the matter and called the mosque's 'nazir' (guardian) to record a statement.

The investigation was carried out under Section 12 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995 for contempt of religious authorities.

Previously, a video of Fahmi giving a speech inside a mosque at Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang went viral on social media.

However, Fahmi on his Facebook denied the allegation that he had campaigned at the mosque.
